Lower Saxony is the second largest federal state in Germany and successfully combines industrial centres, agricultural regions and high-tech developments such as biotechnology. The State Office Lower Saxony offers programmes for foreign experts and executives that concentrate on economic, ecological and social issues.
Science and technology play an important role in Lower Saxony, and the State Office Lower Saxony offers a series of programmes on these twin subjects. "Industrial Biotechnology", for example, is a practise-oriented training seminar with close ties to business interests and designed for experts from the ASEAN member states (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and Latin America. We also run a joint pilot programme for Chinese university graduates with Osnabrueck University of the Applied Sciences. The programme offers advanced scientific and economic training and includes a work-study semester in each student’s respective field in a company in Lower Saxony. The state of Lower Saxony has enjoyed over 20 years of partnership with the Chinese province of Anhui.
Each year at the Hannover Exhibition, we organise the "International Business Contact Forum". This is an ideal place for economic experts to gather information about current economic and technological development and for companies from the same branch to initiate contact with one another. We coordinate all the activities of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Culture with respect to the regional partnership between Lower Saxony and Eastern Cape, South Africa. The partnership focuses on implementing educational servers in educational centres in the Eastern Cape and on mobility and transfer projects in vocational education.
Our dedication to development-related education strengthens and links those active in international cooperation in Lower Saxony. We offer a series of educational and dialogue events closely tied to the interests of the business sector on such topics as corporate social responsibility (CSR) and discussion forums for state parliament representatives on current development policy issues such as climate change or fair purchasing. The "Ch@t der Welten", an internet-supported learning and communication platform, in Lower Saxony focuses on South Africa, the Football World Cup 2010 and topics such as "Environmentally and socially responsible travel".
The activities of the State Office Lower Saxony receive considerable support from the Carl Duisberg Fördererkreis e.V., composed of the ministries of Lower Saxony, the business sector, economic corporations and the scientific community. The local integration of our work throughout the state of Lower Saxony is aided by the efforts of numerous volunteers.
