Programme

Freedom of the press is a critical element of building strong democracies, enhancing civic participation and good governance, and promoting justice and peace. A main pre-requisite for a functioning and critical mass media is to have qualified journalists working to high professional standards.

The objective of the IIJ Capacity Building programme is to strengthen the professional competence of print and online journalists as well as to improve the performance of journalistic training institutions in developing and transitional countries.

The content of the IIJ programme is determined by the development policy of the Federal Republic of Germany which is aligned with the Millennium Development Goals: reducing poverty, promoting equitable forms of globalisation, building peace and realising democracy, protecting the natural environment.
