Reconstruction in Afghanistan

Reconstruction in Afghanistan is making progress. German Development Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul showed she was convinced of that during a one-day visit to Kabul at the end of August. She was there for the official opening of the Afghan Investment Support Agency (AISA), which supports small to medium-sized enterprises in dealing with authorities and thus is to help speed up economic development. Afghan President Hamid Karzai thanked the minister for Germany’s support and welcomed the Federal government’s decision to extend its engagement to other provinces. Wieczorek-Zeul spoke out vigorously for equal rights for Afghani women and encouraged girls to use school education as an opportunity. (ag)
