Europe’s future role in the international order

George W. Bush and Tony Blair justified their war against Iraq with weapons of mass destruction and the fight against terrorism. How little has remained of their original claims, but how long-lasting the consequences. In Europe the war waged by the US and its allies has given rise to intensive debate about the international order and the role that Europe should play in it. This volume published by König/Sicking documents various contributions to the discourse. The speeches formed part of a series held on the occasion of Valéry Giscard d’Estaing’s receiving the Charlemagne Award. The armed conflict in Iraq and the uncertain future in the Middle East were the motivation for inviting a variety of renowned academics to Aachen. (orb)
