Wieczorek-Zeul and Morales meet

Germany’s Development Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul met Evo Morales, Bolivia’s newly elected president, in La Paz in April. They discussed various issues, including debt relief, poverty reduction and the rights of indigenous people. An agreement to protect biodiversity in Bolivia was signed. Germany will contribute € 4 million to support measures in the Andes as well as the Amazon basin. Wieczorek-Zeul was the first German cabinet member to visit Bolivia’s left-wing head of state, who is of indigenous descent.
